About this design
A broad, deep-bodied sunfish frozen mid-glide, fins fanned wide and every scale catching the light. The carve reads like it was hand-chiseled into a slab of solid timber, with that spiny dorsal ridge and those flowing tail fins giving the whole panel real motion. Hang it on a cabin wall and it looks like a trophy without the taxidermy.
This is a high-detail bas-relief STL built for clean cutting. The scale rows are layered with genuine depth, so shadows pool between them and the eye and gill plate stay crisp after finishing. It runs in Aspire, VCarve Pro, Carveco, and ArtCAM, and the height-map detail translates well to laser engraving and 3D printing too. On a CNC router, rough the form with a 6mm end mill at forty percent stepover, then bring out the scales and fin rays with a 3mm ball nose at ten percent stepover. Scale it up for a statement wall piece or down for a lure box lid, a fishing club plaque, or a drawer front. The file holds detail at both ends. Pine, walnut, oak, basswood, it all works, and the relief shines under a darker stain that settles into the recesses.
