About this design
A snarling skull breaks out of a heavy industrial gear, jaw wide open, with coiled springs and tubing spilling from the place a brain should be. This one has attitude. Carved into walnut, the deep recessed background throws hard shadows across the cogwheel teeth and cracked bone, and the finished piece reads like a rusted machine relic pulled from some forgotten workshop. It is the kind of carve people stop and stare at.
Under the hood it is a high-detail bas-relief STL with real depth and clean, predictable toolpaths. The exposed inner spring, the cracked bone texture, and the gear ring all hold their detail through finishing, so you get crisp shadows instead of mush. The file is tested and ready for Aspire, VCarve Pro, Carveco, and ArtCAM, and it runs well on a CNC router or a 3D printer. For best results, rough it out with a 6mm end mill at around 40 percent stepover, then come back with a 3mm ball nose at 10 percent stepover to pull out the fine teeth and tubing. Cut it in walnut, oak, or maple for wall art, a gothic plaque, a man cave sign, or a one-off gift for the gearhead in your life.
