About this design
An old gnome peers out from a rough-hewn hollow, hat tipped low and bushy beard spilling down the panel. His eyes catch the light, every wrinkle and whisker telling a story. Carve this one and people stop to look, because the face feels alive in the grain.
This is a high-detail bas-relief STL built for character work. The sculpting holds crisp edges in the brow, nose, and braided beard while the chiseled background texture frames the portrait and gives it real depth. It is ready for Aspire, VCarve Pro, Carveco, and ArtCAM, and it cuts cleanly on a CNC router or comes off a 3D printer as a display piece. For best results, rough it out using a 6mm end mill at a 40 percent stepover, then switch to a 3mm ball nose and finish at 10 percent stepover to pull out the fine beard strands and skin folds. Run it in hardwood, MDF, or acrylic, scale it to whatever panel size you need, and the toolpaths stay tidy from start to finish. A light stain or paint wash settles into the wrinkles and makes the whole thing pop.
