About this design
A drake mallard locks his wings and drops toward the cattails, head turned, that green head catching the light just before he sets down. There is real motion in this one. Carve it and the feathers, the wheat reeds, and the grasses along the waterline all come alive in wood, the kind of piece a duck hunter stops and stares at.
This is a high-detail bas-relief STL built for clean machining. The layering reads beautifully, wingtips lifted off a textured background, with deep separation between the bird and the marsh behind him so every cut earns its place. The toolpaths run smooth, no fighting noisy geometry. It is tested and ready for Aspire, VCarve Pro, Carveco, and ArtCAM, and it carves well on a CNC router, prints clean on FDM or resin 3D printers, and gives you a rich textured result on a laser engraver. For the best finish, rough it out with a 6mm end mill at 40 percent stepover, then come back with a 3mm ball nose at 10 percent stepover to pull out the feather detail and fine reeds. Run it in oak or walnut and the grain does half the work for you. Great for cabin wall art, lodge plaques, waterfowl signs, and gifts for the outdoorsman who has everything.
