About this design
The face says everything. Eyes closed, brow heavy under a crown of thorns, hair and beard flowing in long carved waves. There is real sorrow worked into this piece, and a small grieving figure stands quietly in the lower corner to deepen the story. Run it in walnut or cherry and the finished panel reads like an altar carving that took a master a month by hand.

The depth is layered well, so the crown of thorns lifts away from the hair, the beard curls hold their shadow, and the drapery folds keep crisp edges instead of muddy transitions. For best results, rough the surface with a 6mm end mill at 40 percent stepover, then bring out the fine hair and thorn detail with a 3mm ball nose at a tight 10 percent stepover.
