About this design
That long spiky comb fin sweeping back over the body is unmistakable. This roosterfish looks like it is mid-strike, caught in motion against a weathered driftwood panel, and once it comes off the spindle the deep shadows in that fin will stop people in their tracks. It is the kind of piece a fisherman hangs and then tells the story behind.
What you get is a high-detail bas-relief STL built for clean machining. The scales are individually defined, the comb fin tapers to fine points, and the background carries that worn plank grain so the whole thing reads like one solid block of carved timber. It cuts cleanly with good depth, so the lighting does the work for you. For best results, rough it with a 6mm end mill at 40 percent stepover, then come back with a 3mm ball nose at 10 percent stepover to pull out the scale lines and the fin tips. The file is ready for Aspire, VCarve Pro, Carveco, ArtCAM, and Fusion 360, and runs on a CNC router, a 3D printer, or a deep laser engraver. Cut it in oak, walnut, or a slab of MDF for paint. It makes a strong wall panel, a coastal sign, a lodge or man cave centerpiece, or a gift any saltwater angler will actually want.
